Athlete of the Week: CJ Schleich
McCann Tech girls' soccer sweeper Charlea Schleich, or C.J. as her teammates call her, led her team to three straight shutouts this past week and has been a big reason why her team is currently 15-1-1 on the season.
"Last week, she anchored our ever-improving defense during a tough stretch where we had six games in nine days," McCann head coach Mike Dowling said. "Our defense gave up only two goals, and CJ was a big part of that stretch."
The sophomore has played a pivotal role for a McCann defense that has nine total shutouts and has allowed just 0.8 goals per game this season. The Hornets earned two Tri-County League wins last week, shutting out Putnam 5-0 on Wednesday before blanking St. Mary's 4-0 on Friday. Earlier this week, Schleich helped her team to a third shutout in a row with a 7-0 victory over Pathfinder.
In addition to her solid play on defense, Schleich also managed to score one goal this season, finding the back of the net in a 5-0 win over Commerce earlier in the month.
