NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Lee girls soccer team found its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over McCann Tech on Monday afternoon.

After a slight delay to the game due to bus issues, Wildcats (1-4) got off to a quick start, scoring eight minutes into the game from a Carina Brown shot. Lee continued to keep the pressure up, controlling the ball in McCann’s final third for most of the first half. A combination of speed and control helped them produce shot after shot, but McCann Tech goalie Savanah Reynolds came up big. Savanah recorded 15 saves keeping McCann in the game.

“Savanah was superb,” McCann Tech coach Mike Dowling said. “She’s a first year player and she’s an animal. She’s going to be OK.”

Although much of the game was controlled by Lee, McCann Tech (0-5) was able to get a slight break of its own with a nice pass from Nadya Berezowski to set up Izzy LaCasse just four minutes after the Hornets conceded the first goal.

Lacasse added another goal in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. Maeve Finnegan brought Lee right back in front just before the half-time whistle with a nice solo goal. Lee had hit the post twice in the run of play and was finally rewarded with a second goal. The Wildcats took that 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half started completely opposite of how Lee came out the first half, conceding possession to McCann and allowing the Hornets to use their speed to get into open areas. Lacasse finally got the tying goal on a corner kick from Dana Canales.

The teams went back and forth trying to get the game winning goal. It was the first goal scorer from Lee, Brown, who did the trick, converting the rebound of a Lena Simone shot. This gave Lee the momentum to see the game through.

“Out of the 80 minutes, I think we played a decent 50 minutes that we were happy with,” Lee coach Lauren Finnegan said.

"I think it was huge to get a goal late, we wanted a couple goals to get a cushion because they have speed up top and know what to do with it. So it was important for us to get the 3-2 lead and keep it.”

McCann will continue to search for their first win of the season Tuesday against Greenfield on the road, while Lee will look to keep the momentum going against Drury on the road Wednesday.
