Lenox Boys Roll Up Big Win at Granby
GRANBY, Mass. -- Michael Abdalla scored twice in the first seven minutes of the second half to kick start Lenox’s offense and send the Millionaires on to a 6-0 boys soccer win over Granby on Saturday.
Lenox (2-0) went into half-time in control of the play but settling for a 0-0 tie against rebuilding Granby, which graduated 13 seniors from last season’s Western Mass semi-finalist squad.
“Throughout the first half we pressured Granby, allowing them into our half of the field only a handful of times,” Lenox coach Matt Cote said. “We had several scoring chances, but because Granby collapsed into their own box, few of our chances were clean.
“At half-time we made a formation adjustment and came out fast, scoring in the 41st minute. That broke the ice for us, and we had the run of play for the duration of the game.”
Ian Laurin scored twice and assisted on a goal, and Matt Heim and Andre Collins scored for Lenox, which got a pair of saves from Matt Tibbetts.
The Millionaires have a rematch with another 2016 tournament foe on Monday. They will travel to face Monson, which earned a 1-0 penalty kicks win over Lenox in last year’s sectional final.
