LENOX, Mass. -- The Pittsfield boys soccer team sought redemption Monday evening after suffering a 3-1 loss to Lenox on Columbus Day.

The Generals able to find it in a 1-0 victory on the road at Lenox High School.

The goal came early, and the Millionaires were about to hold the visitors scoreless for the remaining 78 minutes.

One minute, 20 seconds into the game, the Generals were awarded a free kick -- the first of many for the evening.

Mike Holmes set up for the kick, sending it into the six, where Jesse Kramer was able to connect with the ball, heading it into the net to give Pittsfield a 1-0 lead.

For the next 78 minutes of the game the Generals saw several opportunities, but Lenox goalie Matt Tibbetts stepped up huge in net; finishing with 15 saves.

"Fundamentally they wanted the game more than us, and they played that way," Lenox coach Dave Pugh said. "Tibbetts made a monstrous number of saves tonight to keep us in the game 1-0."

At minutes 17 and 14 in the first half Pittsfield took free kicks that both hit off the cross-bar.

A number of their shots put on net looked good, but Tibbetts kept his team in the game with big saves.

The second half saw a lot of Pittsfield possession. Lenox had a few chances, but defensively Pittsfield was able to hold the Millionaires mostly outside of the 18.

"We showed up and we played like a team," Pittsfield coach Andrew Antil said. "We got 100 percent effort from everybody and that's what it takes."

Late in the second half, Pittsfield's Louis Higuera broke through Lenox's defensive line and sent a shot to the opposite corner past Tibbetts, but Higuera was rulled offsides, leaving the score at 1-0.
