Lenox Boys Bounce Back, Blank Hoosac
LENOX, Mass. – The goal for the Lenox boys soccer team Thursday evening was to, “Get back to basics,” according to Coach Simon Borrett.
And it was a goal the Millionaires certainly accomplished in their 4-0 win over Hoosac Valley, under the lights at Lenox High School.
Lenox was coming off of two tough losses to Minnechaug and Mt.Greylock, and Borrett wanted his boys to come into this game and play Lenox soccer and play the way they train to play.
Although Lenox walked away Thursday evening with a 4-0 win, it was one that didn’t come easy. Hoosac defense was dominant, along with goalie Colby Ells.
Lenox’s first goal didn’t come until the 15th minute of the first half. Hoosac's defense was shutting the hosts down up the sidelines and in the middle of the field, but they were patient and kept working the ball to goal and their opportunity finally came when Dylan Benham found a hole in the Hoosac defense and carried the ball through and put it on net to put Lenox up 1-0.
Shortly after their first goal, they got their second one. Benham crossed the ball from the sideline and Issac Gotterer finished it for Lenox.
“We started off well and we had to,” Borrett said. “Hoosac is a very, very well organized team and it was just as clear, our goals didn’t come easy.”
Hoosac came out in the second half with a more defensive mind set. They really packed in it in hopes to hold Lenox to only the two goals they had.
“We came out with the intentions of playing defense,” Hoosac coach Camilo Bermudez said. “We said, why don’t we just read out the game, we’ll move players to where we can get offense and we figured out our spots.”
Considering Hoosac’s plan to focus on defense in the second half they did get some great opportunities to put the ball in the net, but they weren’t able to capitalize on those chances.
“We had some chances,” Bermudez said. “We just didn’t convert them.”
Lenox on the other side did convert on their opportunities; putting in two more goals to heal the wound from their last two games before meeting with Hoosac.
Mike Abdulla and Benham for Lenox scored their last two goals, unassisted.
Hoosac will host Wahconah on Monday and Lenox will travel to Pittsfield, both 4 starts.
