LENOX, Mass. – Rommel Alvarez scored a first-half goal Saturday to lift the Drury boys soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lenox in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class C Tournament.

Alvarez converted a free kick from just outside the 18 10 minutes into the game, and the seventh-seeded Blue Devils held on for the upset win.

Keeper Colin Daly was a big part of the equation, making 10 saves, including some spectacular stops in the upset win, Drury coach John Jacobbe said.

“First half we had a big advantage with the wind and it made for a very competitive half,” he said. “In the second half, Lenox, with the wind, controlled a majority of the game, but we found a way to hold them off and it was a great team win to keep us alive in the tournament. Super proud of the boys and their effort tonight.”

Drury (5-7-3) moves on to face the winner of Sunday’s game between Springfield International Charter School and Pathfinder.

Lenox (7-10) awaits word of its opponent in the tournament’s consolation round to complete its regular season.
