Naventi, Julieano Earn Athlete of Week Recognition
This week's iBerkshires.com Athletes of the Week speak loudly with a big stick for their respective teams at Lenox Memorial.
Paul Naventi, a student at Monument Mountain who plays on Lenox's South County coop team, is among the leading scorers on the second ranked team in the commonwealth in Division 3 boys lacrosse.
The Millionaires (8-0) are one of a few remaining unbeaten teams in any sport in Berkshire County, and Naventi is a big reason why.
On Friday, Lenox won one of its toughest games to date, a 7-3 defensive struggle on the road at Granby.
Naventi had a hat trick in that win.
He also tied for the team lead in goals with four earlier in the week in a win over Hoosac Valley.
For the season, he has 22 goals and seven assists, second on the team in both categories.
Lenox has a busy week this week, starting with Monday's home game against St. Mary's at BCC and continuing with a trip to Springfield Central on Wednesday and a rematch against Pittsfield on Friday night.
Lenox's softball team got off to a rough start this spring with three straight losses but has gone 5-1 in its next six games to right the ship.
Evelyn Julieano has been right in the middle of that resurgence, batting .571 with 11 RBIs -- both best on the team -- and striking out 50 batters in 44 innnings to compile a 5-2 record in the circle.
On Wednesday, she went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in a 7-3 win over Westfield Tech. Julieano also was one of four players to handle the ball in a triple play that highlighted the day for the Millionaires.
Two days later, against Smith Vocational, she threw a five-inning, complete-game two-hitter and was a big reason the game ended after five thanks to her home run and seven RBIs.
Lenox (5-4) has a big test on Monday, weather permitting, when Monument Mountain (9-2) pays a call, the first of four games in five days for the Millionaires.
