Pittsfield's Rich, Lenox's Meisberger Earn Athlete of Week Honors
For this week’s Athlete of the Week honors, we go to both ends of the pitch.
On offense, Pittsfield High School senior Jackson Rich is a big reason his team had a 2-0-1 week. In goal, Lenox’s Shannon Meisberger has helped the Millionaires to a 5-0 start.
Rich started his week with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 road victory at Mount Greylock. His game-winner in the 76th minute helped give Pittsfield a leg up in the Berkshire North. Two days later, he helped the Generals stay on top of the league standings by again scoring in the closing minutes to earn a 2-2 tie against Lenox.
“Jackson going up with that head ball there just shows the guts that the players have -- get the job done at any cost,” Pittsfield coach Andrew Antil said.
Rich capped his week with a goal in Friday night’s 6-0 win over rival Taconic.
On the season, he has a team-high five goals and two assists for the 4-0-2 Generals.
Meisberger and the Millionaires are off to a strong start, building on last year’s run to the Western Massachusetts Division 4 championship game.
Although Lenox is averaging five goals per game, Meisberger has made sure the Millionaires have needed far fewer than that.
This week, she recorded three shutouts, giving her four on the season. In fact, she has allowed just one goal in 400 minutes this fall. Meisberger has stopped 43 of 44 shots, giving her a whopping .977 save percentage.
