With the regular season more than half over, this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week have their respective teams primed to make deep runs in the post-season.

Just a sophomore, Adriana Carasone still is relatively young for a high school athlete.

But she is a grizzled veteran by the standards of the Mount Greylock girls cross country team.

Carsone has been the leader of a pack of Mounties filled with seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders as the squad has compiled a dual meet record of 14-0 this fall.

Carsone scored as a ninth-grader last year on a Mount Greylock team that ran to a third-place finish at the state Division 3 Championships. She was 44th in a 183-runner field at Fort Devens, site of the state meet again this November.

This week, Mount Greylock and the rest of the county's cross country squads will be in the same place for the first time this fall when they compete at Wahconah on Wednesday.

Monument Mountain senior Erving Henderson did not figure into the scoring in Friday night's win over Pittsfield -- at least not on the score sheet.

Henderson did not get an assist for setting up the game-winning goal. But his play created the scoring chance for teammate Christian Blanchard, who cashed in the rebound of Henderson's shot.

It was a rare night indeed when Henderson does not factor into the scoring for the Spartans. He had the lone goal in the team's other two 1-0 wins, aagainst Agawam in the season opener and the Sept. 11 win over the Generals.

For the year, he has nine goals and two asssts for a Monument Mountain team that is 7-2-2 and ranked fifth in the state in Division 4, according to the latest Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association power rankings.

Monument Mountain faces two more league games in the rugged Churchill Division starting with Monday's road trip to Pope Francis. On Wednesday, the Spartans get a visit from Mount Greylock, which earned a 1-1 tie when the teams met in Williamstown earlier this season (Henderson had the goal in that game, too).
