Mount Greylock Harriers Earn Athlete of the Week Honors
Forget Red October. It was Red November at the the Northfield Recreation Center on Saturday as the Mount Greylock Mounties dominated Division 2 at the Western Massachusetts Cross Country Championships.
This week's iBerkshires.com/Bedard Bros. Auto Athletes of the Week helped paint the town Mountie Red.
Jacqueline Wells and Jesse Seid were individual winners and led the school's girls and boys squads to team titles at the sectional meet.
Wells and the girls topped two-time defending champion Lenox by just three points. She accounted for two points of that advantage by finishing two places ahead of the Millionaires' top finisher.
In terms of the individual title, Wells crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 31 seconds, 13 seconds ahead of runner up Meghan Davis of Mohawk Trail.
On the boys side, meanwhile, Mount Greylock continued its dominance of Western Mass with its eighth straight sectional title.
Seid took first in 17:07, a 14-second margin of victory over runner-up Carsten Carey of Frontier.
And he helped the Mounties finish with 38 points and a comfortable margin over Carey's Frontier team, which finished second with 63 points.
Mount Greylock's girls and boys will hit the trails in Wrentham Saturday at the state meet, where they will be looking to improve on last year's finishes of sixth and 10th places, respectively.
