CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock boys soccer team defeated Hoosac Valley Wednesday afternoon, 6-0, at Hoosac Valley High School.

The Hurricanes had a chance to start the scoring off in the first half when senior forward Dante Sandifer was taken down in the box on a breakaway seven minutes into the game. Sandifer went down and remained on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

Senior David Haley stepped up to take the penalty kick shot; the ball bounced off the side post and deflected right back into the Mount Greylock goalie’s hands.

“If that penalty kick had converted it could have been a different game,” Hoosac Valley coach Camilo Bermudez said.

The Hurricanes are just coming off of a tie against Cathedral Tuesday afternoon and are looking forward to Friday’s game against Taconic that is their ticket to the Western Massachusetts tournament if they get the win.

“Our guys got tired and we started subbing more and we had some eighth graders playing,” Bermudez said. “We tried to hold up, but at the end of the day, Mount Greylock was rested and they played great soccer.”

Mount Greylock ended up scoring four first half goals.

Freshman Sam Dils started the scoring off 24 minutes in, and a minute later he dished the ball to senior forward Dan Flynn for goal number two.

With 10 minutes left, the Mounties set up for a corner kick; Eric Hirsch was able to position himself perfectly to net the third one in for Greylock.

The final goal of the half came from freshman Brady Foehl with an assist from sophomore Brandon Condon, who found Foehl open inside the 18.

Mount Greylock came out dominant in the second; just as they did in the first, but Hoosac's defense really packed it in, only allowing the Mounties to score two more goals.

Hirsch tallied another one for the Mounties 10 minutes into the second half. In the final two minutes on the game, senior Jake Foehl found that back of the net off a pass from his younger brother Brady.

Mount Greylock travels to Ludlow Friday for a 6 p.m. start. Hoosac looks to win that ticket to Western Mass Friday afternoon against Taconic.

“Without doing the math, it’s a make or break game,” Bermudez said. “It is our ticket to Western Mass.”
