Hirsch Leads Mount Greylock Boys on Road
"Eric Hirsch had by far his best game of the season," Mount Greylock coach Blair Dils said. "His first goal seemed to light a spark in him, as he was very difficult to handle the rest of the match.
"His assist to Sam [Dils] on our second goal was a very unselfish play, and it was his hard work that led directly to the own goal. If we can get that kind of effort and production out of Eric every game, opponents will have a very difficult time keeping us off the board."
Sam Dils' got the game-tying goal in the 55th minute. Two minutes later, the Mounties took their first lead on an own goal.
Dils set up Grant Raphael for the final goal of the game with a few minutes left on the clock.
Cal Filson made nine saves, and Jake Foehl played a strong game in the back for Mount Greylock.
"We earned a hard-fought win on the road tonight," Blair Dils said. "We've developed a bad habit of spotting teams one or two goals. Against Monument [a 2-1 loss] we weren't able to make the comeback but in the last two games we've played spirited soccer in the second half to earn the victories."
Mount Greylock (6-1-1) travels to face Amherst-Pelham on Saturday afternoon. It then returns to Berkshire County play on Monday at Taconic.
""We're going to take the day off [Wednesday] and get ready for a tough stretch of five games in nine days," Dils said. "We really don't need to be playing games that often, but it's the schedule we've been dealt so we'll embrace the challenge."
