DALTON, Mass. — It looks like the Mount Greylock boys' soccer team is playing its best soccer of the season at just the right time of the year. The Mounties collected their third straight shutout and fourth straight win on Monday, blanking Wahconah 2-0 on the road.

"We moved the ball really well tonight," Greylock head coach Blair Dils said. "The statistics make it out to be an even game but we felt in control most of the match, especially scoring right out of the gate in the first half."

Sophomore Eric Hirsch got the Mounties on the board just two minutes into the game, scoring off a rebounded shot by senior Nathan Majumder. The play started with a turnover at midfield, leading to a long through ball to Majumder. Warriors' goalie Nick Tutela (12 saves) made the initial save, but Hirsch jumped in on the play and fired a a shot into the open goal from 20 yards out.

"We shook up the lineup tonight and the bottom line is we moved the ball really well," Dils said. "Felix Kershaw did a great job in his first league start, and Eric was dynamic on the left wing. The combination play we produced in the middle of the field was some of our best sequencing of the entire season. Our energy level was very good from the start."

Wahconah (5-7-4) kept it a one-goal game until early in the second half, when Kershaw made a strong run through the midfield and set up Majumder with a perfect through ball. The Greylock captain didn't disappoint, placing a "composed ball" to the far panel of the net for his team-leading 21st goal of the year. Centerback Jonah Majumder led the defensive effort for the Mounties, who also received four saves from senior keeper Sean Houston. It was Houston's third shutout in a row and ninth of the season.

"We will always take a 2-0 North Division win on the road in late October," Dils said. "Wahconah brought a lot of pressure in the last 15 minutes, but the backs stood strong and Sean snuffed out any fires."

Greylock (13-2-1) next hosts Taconic at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
