Athlete of the Week: Sean Houston
Greylock's senior keeper Sean Houston had a big week in net, allowing just one goal in three games as the Mounties went 3-0 on the week.
Houston had five saves and allowed just one goal against Monument Mountain on Monday, helping Greylock to a huge North Division win over the Spartans. The Mounties' captain followed up that performance with consecutive shutouts against Drury and Pittsfield. Houston made two saves before leaving the net early in a 4-0 win over the Blue Devils. He worked his whole shift against the Generals, however, stopping four shots to pick up his eighth shutout of the season so far.
"Sean's an amazing player, and he provides confidence to the whole team," Greylock head coach Blair Dils said. "The backs can do their job with the comfort that he's back there looking to make the great save. He's always been a strong reaction keeper, but he's especially improved his range and his decision making on through balls. He truly defines what it means for the keeper to be the fifth back."
Overall, Houston has a total of 46 saves with 14 goals allowed, good enough for a 0.4 goals against average this year.
"He's a great leader as well," Dils added. He's not without his bad days in training, and when the other boys on the team see Sean get on himself for a bad goal or a weak distribution, they take notice that he's always working hard to perform at the highest level. That's what makes him such a great athlete and captain."
