Calvert Hat Trick Lifts Wahconah Past Mount Everett

DALTON, Mass. -- The Wahconah boys soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over Mount Everett Tuesday thanks to a Brody Calvert hat trick in the second half.

 

It was all Wahconah (4-1) early and often in the first half as they controlled from start to finish. The one thing lacking was goals.

 

Although Wahconah was able to sustain pressure with good possession, it was unable to find the back of the net. The first chance came in the second minute of the game forcing Mount Everett to make some early saves. The next opportunity was shortly after that in the 10th minute with a breakaway for Ryan Marauszwski, but he was unable to convert and hit the post. The Eagles were able to threaten a couple of times on the counter, but a lack of bodies up front made it hard for them to keep any control of the ball.

 

In the 22nd minute, it looked like Wahconah was finally going to get the break through when it got in behind the defense and struck a shot near the byline forcing Mount Everett into another save and clearance from the defense.

 

After the half Wahconah continued to put the pressure on and finally got what it was looking for. A nice cross from Christian Herrera to Brody Calvert for the game’s first goal just five minutes into the half.

 

”I told the guys we were getting chances and to relax because the goals were going to come,” Wahconah coach Kevin Boino said. “It’s part of the game, you can dominate possession but you need to put the ball in the back of the net. I told them to slow down a little bit and try to focus on keeping the ball low with the wet surface and a lot of our goals came from shots on the ground.”

 

The second goal of the game came from a short corner that was swung in from a different angle and found Ryan Marauszwski, who tapped it in the back of the net. From this point on it was a comfortable finish with Wahconah already dominating possession and now seeing two goals to show for it. The hosts tacked on two more goals later in the game, including the third from Calvert that topped off his nice night in front of the net.

 

“It was super important for Brody to find the net,” Boino said. “I’m happy we got our goals and they were all assisted and beautiful goals. We were focused today on keeping possession and moving the ball with one, two touch soccer and it was beautiful to watch in the second half.”

 

Wahconah (4-1) will look to build on this performance when it hosts Easthampton at home on Thursday.

 

Mount Everett (0-5-1) will try and take some of the positives from the first half and take it on the road Thursday against Palmer.
