ADAMS, Mass. – The Wahconah boys soccer team scored four goals in the second half to earn a 4-1 win over Hoosac Valley on Monday evening at Renfrew Field.

Hoosac, who lost to Wahconah 3-0 in its second game of the season, was looking to turn the page this time around, but a quick goal in the second half from Wahconah led to a change in Hoosac’s offensive game, and the Warriors were able to put in three more for the win.

The Hurricanes came out in the first half strong; they moved the ball to feet and controlled a majority of the half; defensively only allowing Wahconah a few opportunities to get shots on net. When those chances did come, Hoosac goalie Colby Ells refused to let anything slip past his line.

Hoosac opened the scoring in the first half, 31 minutes in after a Wahconah foul gave the 'Canes a free kick. Steve Crouch and Khalil Kareh set up outside of the 18; Crouch faked the shot, received a pass from Kareh and put a shot on net to put Hoosac ahead, 1-0.

Wahconah came out in the second half and put in a quick goal to tie things up. Kyle Lyman received a through ball from Dylan Rachat that he placed low on net out of Ells reach.

From there, Wahconah quickly took over. The momentum in Hoosac Valley’s offense changed and its game became more defensive.

"I knew that if we gave up a goal it would mean our team would start to scatter,” Hoosac coach Camilo Bermudez said. “And that’s exactly what happened; the score a goal and before you know it we’re just playing defense the whole time.”

Wahconah’s second goal didn’t come until the final 13 minutes of the game; Kevin Boino carried the ball up the field and beat the Hoosac defender and placed it right in the back of the net.

“The big message was be patient and keep swinging the ball side to side,” Wahconah coach John Kovacs said. “They were playing defensive and packing it in the middle; I told them to use the sidelines.”

Wahconah scored two more goals in the final seven minutes; one more from Boino and one from Jeff Pullano to ensure the Wahconah win.

Hoosac looks to take down St.Joe Wednesday afternoon in Cheshire, and Wahconah hosts Mount Greylock Thursday evening under the lights in Dalton.
