Two of the county's hottest soccer squads produced this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week.

The Taconic boys have turned their season around after flipping the calendar to the month of October.

The Thunder, which started the year 3-6, has gone 5-1-1 in "spooky season" and takes a five-game winning streak into the final week of the regular season.

Taconic junior Frederick Yankey has been a big part of the team's success, scoring 17 goals  to lead the team.

This week, he had two goals in a 3-1 win over Drury and, two days later, notched a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Ware.

Taconic (8-7-1) wraps up the regular season at Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.

The McCann Tech girls soccer team also turned its season around -- after taking its only loss of the fall in the season-opener.

Since then, the Hornets have won 13 games in a row, including a 3-2 victory at home to avenge that 4-0 road loss way back on Sept. 4.

McCann Tech has allowed six goals in that 13-game winning streak, and senior keeper Sofia Francesconi is a big reason why.

She has made 110 saves and posted eight shutouts.

This week, she backstopped McCann Tech to a pair of wins: an eight-save performance in a 2-1 win over Smith Academy and a 13-save shutout on the road at Westfield Tech.

McCann Tech (13-1) closes the regular season with games at home on Monday against Mount Everett and at Hampden Charter on Thursday.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Health Care.
