Mount Everett Boys Win Tourney Opener

NORTHFIELD, Mass. -- Tyler Candelari scored a pair of goals Wednesday to lead the Mount Everett boys soccer team to a 3-0 win over Pioneer Valley in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class E tournament.

 

Candelari scored the game-winner in the 27th minute with an assist from Nathaniel Von Ruden.

 

Early in the second half, Candelari added an unassisted goal.

 

In the 47th minute, Von Ruden converted a penalty kick to provide the final margin of victory.

 

Fifth-seeded Mount Everett (2-13-2) advances to the semi-finals against either No. 8 Gateway or top-seeded Smith Academy, who play Thursday.
