Pittsfield's Lyon, McCann Tech's Darian Tovani Recognized
One of this week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week has been a consistent scoring threat.
The other has been as good as anyone in the county at keeping the other team from scoring.
Both have been racking up wins.
McCann Tech junior Darian Tovani averages 3.5 goals per game for the 7-5 Hornets boys lacrosse team.
He started last week with four goals in a one-goal win over St. Mary's on Wednesday -- a game in which McCann was able to overcome a six-goal deficit.
On Thursday, he had three goals in a much easier outing, a 10-3 win over Granby.
On Saturday, when McCann Tech played its fourth game in as many days, Tovani scored four times in a 12-11 loss to Pittsfield -- a team that beat the Hornets by 12 goals just 10 days earlier.
McCann Tech has another busy stretch scheduled this week with three games in four days starting Tuesday at Belchertown.
Tess Lyon and the Pittsfield softball team play four times in five days starting Tuesday at Lenox.
The Millionaires figure to face an uphill challenge to score runs against either Lyon, a senior, or sophomore Sophia Groves.
Lyon has carried the bulk of the load in the circle this spring, going 9-2 for the 10-2 Genenerals and posting an earned run average of 1.08 while striking out 34 against just seven walks in 65-1/3 innings.
Lyon went 3-0 with two shutouts this past week, starting off by allowing just one earned run in a 6-3 win over Agawam on Monday.
She went six innings two days later in 9-0 win over rival Taconic. And on Saturday, Lyon went the distance, allowing four hits in a 6-0 win over Cumberland, R.I., a game in which she also went 1-for-3 at the plate. For the season, Lyon is helping her cause to the tune of a .343 batting average.
