Leal's Goal Helps McCann Boys Salvage Tie

SPRINGFIELD -- After a slow start, the McCann Tech boys soccer team rallied for a 1-1 tie against Commerce on the road on Friday afternoon.

 

Jon Leal scored the lone Hornets goal off an assist from Shane Fuller in the 59th minute after the hosts opened with a goal five minutes in.

 

"We started out a little flat, which allowed Commerce to score in the first five minutes," McCann coach Tom Bona said. "Then we tightened up our defence and battled back. 

 

"It was a physical game and we held our own. We would have had more shots on net but the Commerce defense stopped alot of shots before they made it to the goalkeeper."

 

The Hornets (5-0-1) had 16 shots on goal.

 

Chris Gajda made 12 saves for McCann, which hosts Westfield Vocational on Tuesday.
