Pittsfield Boys Seeded Third in State Tournament
The Pittsfield boys soccer team grabbed the No. 3 seed in the Division 4 State Tournament acccording to the seeds that were released on Friday afternoon.
Eight Berkshire County boys teams and six girls squads were included in the brackets posted on the MIAA website.
The Generals are one of eight teams to get a bye through the first round of the 40-team D4 tournament.
Pittsfield awaits the winner of a preliminary round game between No. 35 O'Bryant of Boston and No. 30 Bourne in the Round of 32.
Another of those teams with a bye in the D4 tournament is Monument Mountain, which is seeded fifth in the state and will host either No. 37 Wahconah or No. 28 Lynn Vo-Tech, who meet in the prelims in Lynn on a date to be announced.
Another all-Berkshire game is possible in the Division 5 boys' round of 32. Twelfth-seeded Mount Greylock, which plays for a Western Massachusetts title on Saturday at Springfield Central, will be home next week in the state tournament against either No. 44 Hoosac Valley or No. 21 Holbrook, who play in the preliminary round.
No. 34 McCann Tech is also on the road in the prelims. The Hornets head east to face Douglas for the right to go to No. 2 Sutton in the Round of 32.
On the other side of the D5 bracket, Lenox's boys get a home game in the preliminaries. The Millionaires host Boston's Commercial Academy of Science and Health; the winner plays top-seeded Boston International.
The Taconic boys qualified for the Division 3 State Tournament. The Thunder is seeded No. 40 and travels to meet No. 25 Danvers in the prelims. The winner of that game goes to No. 8 Weston in the Round of 32.
The top seeded Berkshire County team in girls soccer is Mount Greylock, which is No. 10 in the Division 5 state tournament. The Mounties' girls, who also will be playing in a Western Mass final on Saturday at Central, will then prep for the winner of a preliminary game between No. 23 Lenox and No. 42 Roxbury Prep.
The Drury girls and Hoosac Valley girls also are home in the prelminary round in D5. The Blue Devils are the No. 27 seed and will host Boston Collegiate Charter to see who goes to play No. 6 Saint John Paul II of Hyannis. The No. 31 Hurricanes are home against No. 34 Springfield International Charter School; the winner of that one goes to play No. 2 Hull.
The fifth Berkshire County team in the Division 5 girls tournament is McCann Tech. It is seeded No. 33 and goes to No. 32 Parker Charter of Devens in the prelims. Either McCann Tech or Parker Charter will play top-seeded Douglas for a spot in the Sweet 16.
The Monument Mountain girls grabbed the No. 20 seed in Division 4. The Spartans will be at No. 13 Rockland in the Round of 32.
