NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Lee High School boys soccer team defeated Drury, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Devils controlled the tempo of the first half and moved the ball up the field; they had a few opportunities to put the ball in the net, but we unable to capitalize on them.

“I thought we played very good team soccer in the first half, we’re getting better as a team,” Drury coach John Jacobbe said. “We’re obviously just having trouble putting the ball in the net.”

Although the Devils controlled a majority of the first half, Lee was able to put one in to take lead in the 33rd minute. Jose Mejia sent a ball up to Jake Murphy who let a shot off; the ball slipped through Drury goalie Brian Christian’s hands.

Lee came out a lot more aggressive in the second half, producing a lot more opportunities. The Wildcats' second goal came in the 24th minute off a penalty kick.

A handball was called on Drury very close to the 18; the Devils believed that the foul occurred outside of the box, but the referee issued a penalty kick that Lee’s Nick Pow was able to capitalize on.

“I was disappointed in the call,” Jacobbe said. “But he saw what he saw, and you need to move on from it and continue to play.”

The penalty kick call frustrated the Blue Devils and they continued to look for the comeback. They had a few late opportunities, but like the first half they struggled to put the ball in the net.

Lee scored two late goals to give them the 4-0 win. The goals came from Mejia, assisted by Nick Wood, and Pow, unassisted.

Drury takes on Taconic Friday and Lee will travel to St. Joseph.
