SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pope Francis boys soccer team scored 24 seconds into the game and went on to a 4-0 win over Mount Greylock on Thursday night.

Ward Bianchi and Lukas Burrow combined for nine saves in the Mounties’ goal.

"We obviously cannot start matches on the back foot,” Mount Greylock coach Erin Sullivan said. “For whatever reason, we took a little too long to get into the flow and speed of the game and it cost us dearly. Pope Francis is a lethal team when given the opportunities. Once we dialed up our closing speed and pack defending, we were able to turn over a very talented Pope Francis team and create a ton of chances despite not scoring."

"I love that the Churchill League is so challenging and we get to test ourselves against some of the better programs in all of Massachusetts, let alone District 1. I believe these matches only make us quicker, fitter, stronger, and more determined, a level we're striving to achieve day in and day out.”

Mount Greylock (3-5, 2-4 Churchill) is home on Monday afternoon against Lenox.
