PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The South Hadley football team Friday spoiled Senior Night for Taconic with a 52-12 win.

It was a big night for Taconic (2-6) not only because it was Senior Night, but because even after the tough season they had it still held a chance at postseason action. South Hadley was battling for a playoff spot as well, and the Tigers came out ready to play.

On the third play of the opening drive Taconic connected on a pass that was ripped away and recovered by South Hadley. The visitors then took the next possession in for a touchdown with just four plays. They were able to stop Taconic again on a three-and-out and went right back to the ground game for their second score of the night.

South Hadley finished the game with seven total rushing touchdowns and more than 300 rushing yards in the first half alone.

Things didn’t get any easier for Taconic as they were unable to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. South Hadley only needed two plays to score its third touchdown of the game, and it looked like Taconic was depleted early. South Hadley continued to build momentum and eventually took a 44-0 lead into the break.

The Tigers went into cruise control for the second half, tacking on one more touchdown in the middle of the third quarter.

In a game that seemed like nothing left to play for Taconic continued to fight and it was rewarded with a couple of touchdowns from senior Sean Harrigan. The first came on an impressive drive from Taconic that saw them go the length of the field before Harrigan rushed it in from 10 yards out. The second was on a wildcat formation as Harrigan took the snap over 50 yards for the score. It wasn’t the end of the season they wanted but they can be proud of the way they fought till the end.
