Wahconah Takes Down Taconic
DALTON, Mass. — The Wahconah football team wasted no time taking the lead Friday night, scoring just 35 seconds into a 47-22 win over.
The touchdown, which came off an interception the previous play, put Wahconah up 7-0 after a successful field goal. It was one of two touchdowns for the team in the first quarter, with the second coming just about halfway through.
Taconic scored its first touchdown with just over three minutes left in the quarter, bringing the score to 14-6 after a failed two-point conversion. Both teams were held scoreless for the majority of the second quarter. Wahconah, however, scored two touchdowns in the last minute of the half, with the second coming with just 0.6 seconds left on the clock. Going into the second half, Wahconah led, 34-6.
Taconic got its second touchdown of the game six minutes into the third quarter, bringing the score to 34-14 with a successful two-point conversion. The hosts responded with another touchdown just minutes later to take a 26-point lead into the final quarter.
A third touchdown and two-point conversion from Taconic brought the score to 40-22 early in the fourth, but the team would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Wahconah scored its final touchdown with 6:30 left in the quarter
With the win, Wahconah holds onto an undefeated 3-0 record to start the season. The team will have the chance to increase their win streak to four in a road game against East Longmeadow on Sept. 30. With the loss, Taconic moves to 1-2 on the season. The Thunder’s next game is at home against Ludlow on Sept. 29.
