PVIAC Releases 2016 High School Football Schedules
The Steeple City gridiron rivalry will kick off on Oct. 15 in the Hornets Nest.
The Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference this week posted the high school football schedules for 2016, and McCann Tech and Drury will play as members of the newly constituted Intercounty West division on Saturday, Oct. 15, the sixth week of an eight-week season.
Lee, Drury, Mount Greylock and McCann are in the five-team division, along with Pioneer Valley school Mohawk Trail Regional.
Each of the teams has four games outside the division according to the schedule released this week.
Drury is slated to play Frontier, Pioneer, Palmer and Smith Vocational before starting division play on Friday, Oct. 7, at Lee.
The other four divisional schools kick off league play on Friday, Sept. 30, with Lee at Mohawk and McCann Tech at Mount Greylock.
The four Berkshire County schools in the Intercounty West will conclude league play in the division on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, when Mount Greylock goes to Drury and Lee hosts McCann Tech.
The rest of the Berkshire County schools fall into two divisions under the alignment that the PVIAC and Berkshire County League agreed to try for one season.
The new Suburban North is a six-team league featuring Hoosac Valley, Pittsfield, Taconic, Wahconah and PVIAC schools Chicopee and South Hadley.
According to the schedule posted on the PVIAC site, the six teams will play a round robin starting the weekend of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 with five league games each weekend, capped by the Oct. 28-29 contests, which include Pittsfield at Taconic and Wahconah at Hoosac Valley.
Both Wahconah and Hoosac are scheduled to play Amherst the first two weeks of the season. Pittsfield has non-league dates against Easthampton and Ludlow. Taconic is scheduled to play at Belchertown and at home on the opening weekend against Monument Mountain of the new Intercounty South.
The Spartans are in a league with Ludlow, Easthampton, Belchertown and Amherst.
Monument is scheduled to play at Taconic, home against Chicopee and at Athol the first three weeks of the season before playing four straight weeks against Intercounty South opponents. After starting the season with trips to Athol and Amherst in the first four weeks, the Spartans are rewarded with home games in Weeks 6 and 7 against Ludlow and Belchertown.
