Springfield Central Holds Narrow Lead on Taconic in Football Poll
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The narrowest of margins separate Nos. 1 and 2 in the latest Western Mass High School Football Media Poll.
Springfield Central (5-2) noses out Taconic (6-1) for the top spot with 76 points and four first-place votes. Taconic garnered the other four first-place votes but just 75 points to fall into second place.
Chicopee Comp (6-1), which lost to Central last Friday, tumbled from to top spot to No. 5 in this week’s rankings.
Westfield (6-1) and Wahconah (6-1) each slide up one spot to third and fourth, respectively.
Just one team, Agawam (4-3), falls out of the top 10, dropping from No. 7 after a loss to Longmeadow (3-3), which takes Agawam’s place in the top 10, moving into the nine hole.
Otherwise, the bottom half of the top 10 looks very familiar, with Northampton (6-1), Mount Greylock (7-0), Turners Falls (7-0) and South Hadley (4-3) each repeating. The Mounties slide up a spot to No. 7.
The poll, organized by the Berkshire Eagle, includes voters from the Eagle, Greenfield Recorder, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Berkshire Courier and iBerkshires.com.
