Hoosac, Pittsfield Move into Region's Top 10
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Week 2 of Western Mass Football Media Poll sees four Berkshire County teams in the top 10 with Pittsfield and Hoosac Valley both moving up from the “others receiving votes” category.
The top vote-getters remain the same with roughly the same gap between No. 1 Springfield Central with 67 points and No. 2 Chicopee Comp with 62. Last week, Central had a 14-point lead over the Colts.
Taconic, despite a dominating performance in Week 2, slipped a spot in the eyes of the voters, from a second-place tie, one point ahead of Northampton, down to fourth place, four points below the Blue Devils.
On the other hand, Taconic (2-0) is the only team not named Springfield Central or Chicopee Comp that garnered a first-place vote in this week’s poll.
Wahconah’s position remains unchanged at No. 7, but it did pick up a few more points this week, heading into Friday night’s showdown at No. 6 West Springfield.
The other teams cracking the Top 10 from the area are No. 9 Hoosac Valley and No. 10 Pittsfield. Dropping out from a week ago are Agawam and Longmeadow.
The biggest movers from Week 1 are Agawam, which fell all the way from No. 5 to unranked and Westfield, which climbed from No. 8 to No. 5 after stomping Agawam. The Bombers will get a big test Friday night against top-ranked Central.
The poll, which is organized by the Berkshire Eagle, includes voters from iBerkshires.com, the Berkshire Courier, the Greenfield Recorder and the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
