Lloyd, Bradley Earn Athlete of Week Honors
This week’s iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week are showing that the “sophomore jinx” isn’t really a thing.
McCann Tech 10th grader Jordyn Lloyd scored two goals in the girls soccer team’s only outing of the week, a convincing 9-0 win over Hampden Charter.
In four games this fall, she has scored three times, second most on a team that has compiled a 3-1 record out of the gate.
McCann Tech’s only loss to date was a 1-0 decision against Westfield Tech, a team that has outscored its other four opponents by a combined margin of 24-0.
After only playing once in the last seven days, the Hornets have a busy stretch on tap with four games in six days starting on Monday with a rematch against Smith Vocational, a 1-0 loser when the teams met in North Adams in the season opener.
McCann Tech plays back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday before finishing the week at home on Saturday against Duggan Academy.
Qwanell Bradley had a season’s worth of scoring in one night at Monument Mountain on Friday.
The Hoosac Valley sophomore scored three times on receptions from classmate Kamarion Kastner and ran back a fumble 42 yards. He also ran in a two-point conversion for 26 points in a 43-0 road win.
For his efforts, Bradley was awarded the oversized gold chain that a Hurricane receives as the player of the game from the team’s coaches.
“It’s my first time,” Bradley said. “It feels amazing.”
Bradley has eight touchdowns through three games. Last year, it was Week 6 before a very young Hoosac Valley team scored its eighth touchdown as a team.
He and his sophomore teammates are still young, but they are putting last year’s experience to good use with a quick start in 2023.
On Friday, Hoosac Valley will begin play in the Intercounty South Division, going on the road to face a stout Belchertown team that is 2-0, owns a win over Pittsfield High and has put up 100 points in its first two games.
