Mashpee Drops McCann Tech
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Mashpee football team got the better of McCann Tech (0-3) with a 36-8 win on Friday night.
Mashpee got the game going on the first series of the game with a nice four-play drive that was capped off with a 27-yard run from Aidan MacDougall. MacDougall finished the game with 94 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
It was a sloppy game on both sides of the ball, especially in the first half. Both teams racked up the penalties and turnovers in the first half including three fumbles and two muffed punts for a safety.
After a quick three and out for McCann, Mashpee continued running the ball with MacDougall for his second of the night. On the next series MacDougall got it done on the defensive end with an interception. Mashpee wasn’t able to capitalize on the turnover, giving it right back on the next play with a forced fumble and recovery from Aidan Ford.
McCann was unable to get anything going offensively and eventually gave the ball right back to Mashpee with a fumble. This time Mashpee made the Hornets pay with a nice 15-yard score through the air giving them a 19-0 lead. Mashpee got that first safety of the game to put the score at 21-0 and added one more score in the half giving them a 28-0 lead and leaving this game out of reach.
Mashpee forced its second safety of the game right after the break to bring the score to 30-0.
McCann didn’t give up and finally was rewarded late in the fourth quarter with a string of nice plays by Matthew Morris, First on the ground with a 43 yard run to get them into scoring territory and then with a nice throw to Aiden Macpherson for a 10-yard score. McCann got one more chance at the end of the game but came up short, finishing the game, 36-8.
Although it was McCann Tech’s third straight loss to start the season, the team overall has improved from game to game.
It again will play under the lights on Thursday against city rival Drury (2-0), a 36-6 winner over Athol on Friday.
