Tatro Leads Hoosac Valley Past Drury
ADAMS, Mass. — The Hoosac Valley football team took care of business at home against the Drury Blue Devils with a commanding, 34-6, win on Friday night.
Hoosac Valley (2-0) got things going right off the bat with a big kickoff return to inside the 5-yard line. It only took the Hurricanes a couple more plays before punching it with Kadan Tatro to give them the early, 8-0 lead. Tatro finished the game with three touchdowns and more than 130 yards rushing.
Hoosac Valley built on its opening momentum and forced Drury into a three-and-out on the ensuing drive. The Hurricanes looked to add to their lead but were picked off after a couple nice first downs.
Drury looked like it finally settled into the game after a nice long drive that was eventually halted due to back-to-back penalties pushing them behind the sticks. After the end of the first quarter, Qwanell Bradley secured his first of two interceptions on the night, leading to a big 73-yard touchdown run from Tatro to make it 14-0.
Hoosac Valley continued to dominate on the defensive side as well, holding Drury to just about nothing on the ground. With less than a minute in the game and Hoosac driving, the Hurricanes had a bit of luck when a near sack turned into a freaky loose ball that Qwanell Bradley caught and ran for 23-yard score. Hoosac went into half-time with a 20-0 lead and no real sign of slowing down.
Bradley, one of the standout players for Hoosac Valley on both sides of the ball, got his second interception just after the halftime break. He then scored from the 1 to put the game out of reach.
The Hoosac Valley defense stepped up again forcing a fumble this time which turned into another quick score giving them a 34-0 lead.
“Our defense stepped up big for us, those turnovers are part of the game and it bailed us out a lot,” Hoosac Valley coach Mike Bostwick said. “We had the momentum for most of the game, but when Drury started to move down the field we slowed them down with turnovers when we had the opportunity.”
Hoosac continued to run the clock out, looking to improve for their next week's matchup with Monument Mountain, but not before Drury scored a late consolation prize from Dante Dillard, who caught a nice pass from Ben McDonough with no time left on the clock.
“We have to play a lot cleaner in order to beat that Monument team,” Bostwick said. “I was a little frustrated with our guys tonight. We didn't play our brand of football. They know what the expectations are, but we will be more disciplined with our practices going forward.”
Hoosac Valley will look to start the season off with three straight wins next Friday on the road.
The Blue Devils (0-2) will look to put this tough start to the season behind them as they host Ware next Friday.
