Different sports, different ends of the county, but on the same night, the iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week had big nights.

In North County, the celebration was for Lee senior Suriana Lee, who reached 1,000 assists for her career in a 3-1 win over Mount Greylock.

Lizzy Brown has been on the receiving end of a lot of those assists and was again in a hard-fought win over the Mounties that kept the two-time defending champion Wildcats unbeaten in the Berkshire County North Division.

Against Mount Greylock, Brown had 12 kills to go with seven digs. Earlier in the week, she had nine kills in a straight-set in over Wahconah.

Brown, a second-team all-league selection last fall, is a big reason the Wildcats are on course to return to a top of league they have dominated over the last 10 years.

And Suriana Lee, who rightly was the focus on Friday, was quick to redirect the praise to Brown and the rest of the squad.

“The team means everything. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Lee said. “I am so lucky and so grateful to have such a great team. It was really important that they stayed consistent, even though there is this big moment. They don’t get into their heads and we’re on top of it. They are always staying focused and in the game, and it is just so good to have so many people that I can rely on. Even if somebody is having a bad night there is always somebody else to support me.”

Players on the Pittsfield High football team needed to pick one another up throughout a back-and-forth battle at Lee High on Friday.

The Generals survived with a 42-34 win, and junior Sincere Moorer was a big reason why.

The running back/defensive back had a key fourth-quarter interception, ran for a TD and caught a 2-point conversion pass on the game-winning touchdown in the final minute.

But the biggest highlight of the night was a 50-yard pass he completed on a halfback option that got Pittsfield into the red zone for that winning TD.

"It was crazy, man," Moorer said of the emotions after completing the bomb to Brandon Cook on second-and-25. "I don't know what to say. I was very excited, very excited."

Pittsfield (1-2) will look to carry that momentum into a rare Thursday game against South Hadley at BCC's Gene Dellea Field.

Lee's volleyball team will put its 6-1 record on the line Tuesday in a rematch at Wahconah.
