Colm Higgins, 22

MONTEREY, Mass. â€' Colm Higgins, 22, of Main Road died early Friday morning, Aug. 13, 2009, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Raised in South Berkshire, the son of John and Ann Doody Higgins of Monterey, he attended local schools and Berkshire Country Day School. He also attended Monument Mountain High Regional High School. Mr. Higgins worked at many of Great Barrington's restaurants, most recently at Pearl's Restaurant. Before his return to the Berkshires in May, he worked two seasons at the Maho Bay Resort in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He loved to act, participating each year in Shakespeare & Company's Fall Festival of Shakespeare while in high school. He had roles in community theater in Great Barrington and also performed at Mixed Company, for which he portrayed Beale in Joan Ackermann's musical play "Isabella." He was also a member of The Berkshire Children’s Chorus. He played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Monterey and Great Barrington and loved skateboarding and swimming. Everyone who knew Colm loved him, said his family and friends, and losing him has left an empty space in all their lives that will never be filled He was the beloved son of , the much loved brother of Deirdre and Eoin Higgins, and the beloved grandson of William and Mary Higgins and Nora and Jack Doody. Besides his parents, he leaves his brother, Eoin Higgins of Olympia, Wash.; his sister, Deirdre Higgins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his maternal grandparents Nora and Jack Doody of Dublin, Ireland; his beloved girlfriend, Rachel Cole of Northfield, Vt., and by his aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents William and Mary McLaughlin Higgins. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. William Murphy. Burial will follow in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 17, from 4 until 7 at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. I had the pleasure of working with your son last October at Mahobay. He always had such a positive outlook, it was "uplifting" just to be around him. I pray that you will find some peace in all the beutiful memories you have of Colm. God be with you and your family.
