Carey E. Dassatti, 71

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Carey Emil Dassatti passed away the morning of November 3, 2024, surrounded by love and family at the age of 71. He was born on April 1, 1953 to Erminio “Ernie” and Elizabeth “Mary” (Maroni) Dassatti in North Adams, MA. He attended Drury High School, where he starred on the football, basketball, and track teams, and graduated in 1971. He went on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and was a brother of the Chi Phi fraternity and star forward on the basketball team.

After living in Bennington, VT and Stamford, CT, he met Peggy Whelan and moved to New York, and the two married on November 17, 1984. Together they raised three children in a home full of love and laughter in Barrington, IL. Carey worked a long and decorated career building and leading teams and organizations in Human Resources, including 25 years at Motorola in and around Chicago, and 6 at Dawn Foods in Jackson, MI. His love of sports led him to become an avid golfer, a hobby he supported by eventually retiring to Cape Coral, FL, and becoming an active member of the Cape Royal Golf Club. As an April Fools Baby, he was ready with a joke all the way to his last moments, filling every space he occupied with laughter at every opportunity. And as a loving family man, he was excited to become a grandfather to his first grandchild, expected in January.

He is survived by his children: Griffin (Jessica), Mac, and Reagan Dassatti; his former wife, Peggy Dassatti; and his siblings: Ed (Mary Ellen), Mary Ann (Eric Gross) Dassatti, and Richard “Dick” (Sheila); his sister-in-law: Tracy Dassatti; one aunt Mrs. Henry (Marie) Maroni; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Mary, and his brother, Bob.

Celebrations of his life have taken place in Cape Coral, FL and Chicago, IL. The North Adams celebration will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Grazie Restaurant, 310 State St. North Adams, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Carey’s name to the Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, or giving blood at your local blood bank. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com

To the entire Dassatti Family.
I am so sorry to hear of Careys passing. Not only was he a great athlete but a truly nice person. If you played sports with him as a teammate, he treated you with respect whether you were good or bad and I wasn't very good. I will always remember him for that. Rest in Peace.

A friend of Carey's since kindergarten at Haskins. His family was my second family. The Super 6 since high school included Kurt Van Steemburg, Dave Angeli, Ed Allah's, and Bill Rivard. We have been friends a long time. Carey will be missed. Wish I could have seen him one more time. RIP old friend.

One of the great things about being in the class of 71 at Drury was being Carey's classmate. My sincere condolences to the Dassati family.
