Richard F. Powers, 84

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Mr. Richard “Dooly” F. Powers, 84, of Cheshire, died Tuesday evening, April 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Adams on July 16, 1940, a son of the late John and Alice (Fortier) Powers. He attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams Memorial High School with the Class of 1959. While at Adams High, he was a three-sport athlete and an outstanding running back for their football team. After high school, he remained active playing golf, and at the age of 40 ran the Boston Marathon, with a finish time of 3 hours, 11 minutes.
Dooly worked as a machinist in the Power Transformer division of General Electric in Pittsfield for over 30 years, until retiring. He then worked for several years as a help desk technician for the former Berkshire County Network in Adams. He had also served with the Massachusetts National Guard for several years. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, enjoyed golfing and vacationing with his family, and was an avid New England Patrots fan.
Dooly is survived by the love of his life, Ann M. Ascevich Powers, whom he married on January 29, 1988; two daughters, Robin Powers of Cheshire and Jennifer DeMarino and her husband Eddie of Franklin, MA; one son, Sean Powers of Savoy; six grandchildren, Brittney, Brandy, Danielle, Adam, Emily and Paige; 3 great grandchildren, Sloane, Maeve and Brooke; one brother, Michael Powers of Adams; two sisters, Eileen Banas of Adams and Kathleen Wilton of North Adams; his brother-in-law and best friend Robert Alibozek of Adams; his little canine friend Tilly, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Alibozek. Dooly’s family would like to thank the staff of HospiceCare in the Berkshires for the care and kindness they extended to Dooly and his family.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 13th beginning with a calling hour at 10:00AM with a service beginning at 11:00 AM. at the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams.
