Nancy Jean Segala, 76

Nancy Jean Iacuessa Segala, 76, wife of John Segala entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2025, surrounded by family in Cheshire MA after a courageous battle with cancer.

Nancy was born on September 1, 1948, in Adams MA to the late Eleanore Best Fortier and John Iacuessa. She was raised by her loving mother and stepfather, the late Edward Fortier in Adams and graduated from Adams Memorial High School in 1966.

In her youth Nancy travelled through Europe where she lived and worked for a time in Frankfurt, Germany. When she returned to the Berkshires, she obtained an associate’s degree with high honors in Human Services from Berkshire
Community College and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She earned her Bachelor’s degree Summa Cum Laude from North Adams State College and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut – Hartford. She lived and worked as a therapist with patients suffering from substance abuse in Berkshire County MA and Sarasota/Venice FL for most of her life.

Nancy joined in matrimony with her husband John in St. Lucia February 2002. For many years Nancy and John loved to travel and explore new places, spending time on the Islands of the Caribbean, fulfilling Nancy’s dreams of keeping her toes in the sand and feeling the warmth of the sun on her face.

Nancy had deep and loving relationships with her family and friends, leaving imprints on all the lives she touched, including her side kick kitty Mia Bella who followed her step to step. Nancy loved to stay in touch especially through
Facebook so she could video chat. Nancy was so proud of her family and we would often see her endearing smile especially when she was called “Nana”. Her grandchildren gave her the greatest joy.

She immensely enjoyed eating out, spending time at the pool, listening to the Drum Circle and making memories with her lifelong besties, Rita Clark and Marilynn Coussoule, and closest friends in Venice, FL and at Summer Green. Nancy’s dear friend Bill W helped guide her through life and her spirituality.

In addition to her husband John of 23 years, Nancy leaves to cherish her memory, her immediate family; brother William Iacuessa (Alice) of Wellfleet, MA; nephew Michael Iacuessa of San Francisco CA; sister in law Jane Gallivan of Venice, FL; step-son Eric Segala of Florida MA, step-daughters Michele Segala Johnson (Tony), daughter Neviah of Windsor, MA, Nicole Segala Johnson (Jeremy), son Micah of Cheshire, MA, Jennafer Segala (Justyn Tworig), daughter Brinley and sons Coltyn and Sawyer of Savoy, MA. Her close extended family include her half-siblings Carole Cash, Gina Adams, Sandy Fox, and John Iacuessa, cousins Lee Hauge, Lanesboro, MA, Mark Hauge of Windsor, MA, Eric Hauge of Antioch, TN; Greg Best of Pittsfield MA, Gary Best of Lenox MA, Debbie Mangini of Raleigh, NC, Mary Lou Kleiner (Kenneth) of Freemont, NH, and Brother & Sister in law, Neil & Susan Segala of Norton, MA. She was predeceased by her sister Patricia and cousins Mabel Sherman (Ferdie) and JoAnn Hauge (Lee).

The family is planning a Celebration of life when the Sun is Shining in summer of 2025.

I couldn't have asked for a better friend to go through Junior High on up with, to travel Europe with, to be young with, to sow our wild oats. My most cherished memories, and a bond that lasted all these years. My bestie, my sister of the secrets we shared. Thank you for being my friend. Love to your wonderful family, who loved and cared for you throughout this journey. I love you and miss you dearly.
