Donald E. Oltsch, 88
CHESHIRE, Mass. —
Mr. Donald E. Oltsch, 88, of Cheshire, died Saturday morning, January 18, 2025 at his home.
He was born in Adams on August 21, 1936, son of the late Carl W. and Bertha A. (Gzimalowski) Oltsch and attended Adams schools.
Don was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the 9th A&E Maintenance Squadron of the US Air Force from 1953 until his Honorable Discharge as an Airman First Class in 1957.
He worked at Big Y Supermarkets as produce manager until his retirement. Earlier, he had worked as produce manager for the former Adams Super Markets Corp.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, and was a former president of the St. Stanislaus School Parent-Teacher Group. He was a former member of the Adams Lions Club. An avid bowler for many years, he was a member of the Mt. Greylock Bowl League in North Adams and was a past Secretary of the league. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and playing the lottery.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Patricia F. Czubryt, whom he married on April 20, 1963; his daughter, Deborah Patten and her husband Jeffrey of Sandown, NH; his two sons, Donald Oltsch, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Weare, NH, and Timothy Oltsch and his fiancé Kristin Rode of Kingston, NH, seven grandchildren, Nicholas Oltsch, Christopher Oltsch, Alexander Oltsch, Joshua Patten and his wife Emily, Zachary Patten, Troy Oltsch and Tyler Oltsch; one great granddaughter, Isla Patten; his sister, Carol LaPlante of Stagecoach, TX, his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Elaine and George Reich of Wilbraham, MA and Kathy and Brian Jozefiak of Bishopville, FL; his fur babies Abby, Bella and Molly, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Audubon Society, Attn: Donations, 225 Varick St., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10014.
