Dr. Raymond A. Kurpiel, 80

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —  Dr. Raymond A. Kurpiel, 80, of Williamstown, died Tuesday morning, December 10, 2024 at North Adams Regional Hospital. He was born in Napa, California on November 13, 1944, a son of the late Frederick T. and Rose M. (Moser) Kurpiel. He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, Adams, and graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School, North Adams, with the Class of 1962. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the US Airforce from 1963 until his Honorable Discharge as an Airman First Class in 1966, after serving in Iceland. He went on to receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts and earned his PhD from the University of Virginia. Ray worked as a consultant for Pfizer, Inc. for several years, and had also worked as the program developer for the Westfield (MA) Citywide Drug Council for several years. He lived in Virginia for many years, until returning to New England and taking a teaching position at Clark University in Worcester for several years. He is survived by his longtime partner, Pamela Burger, of Williamstown; his brothers Frederick T. Kurpiel, Jr. and his wife Carol of Peachtree City, GA and Mark A. Kurpiel and his companion Connie Lyons of Carrollton, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 2:00 PM in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOIME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will be in the Spring in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Saturday from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM, directly before the service, in the funeral home. We're so sad to hear about Ray's passing. Ray was a Spring Street fixture and "regular" at Tunnel City Coffee. We always enjoyed his warm banter, sense of humor and of course, car advise. People like Ray gave Williamstown a soul. He will be dearly missed.
