John William Battersby, 92

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  

John William “Jack” Battersby, 92 of North Adams died on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Center in Pittsfield, MA.

John was born in North Adams on August 22, 1932 a son of the late William John Battersby and Margaret (Lynch) Battersby. He attended Drury High School and graduated with the class of 1951. John was employed as a research center foreman at General Electric Company and Sprague Electric.

John was a decorated veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War serving as a Corporal. He was a member of the North Adams American Legion, Northern Berkshire YMCA, Greylock Community Club, and played softball in his younger years. When his children were young, he enjoyed taking them swimming and out for ice-cream.

John leaves his daughter, Diane (John) Carpinello of North Adams and grandchildren, Jessica Carpinello, Michael Carpinello, Dana Levy (Matt), Jayson Levy (Sara), Darren Levy, great granddaughter Cooper-Ann and daughter in law Donna Battersby. He was predeceased by his sons Thomas and William Battersby and sister Anne O’Brien. John’s family would like to thank Mt. Greylock Extended Care and the Hospice team for their incredible loving care and ongoing support.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service with full military honors will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 10-12 PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home – WEST CHAPEL 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247.
