John T. Clarno, 90
ADAMS, Mass. —
Mr. John T. Clarno, 90, of Adams, passed away Wednesday evening, January 1, 2025 at his home, with his family at his side.
He was born in Freeport, IL on June 2, 1934, son of the late Clarence C. and Freida (Cordella) Clarno, and attended Illinois schools, earning his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University.
John served with the United Staes Air Force during the Vietnam War as a transport pilot from 1956 until his honorable discharge as a Captain in 1967.
John worked as an airline pilot for Pan Am Airlines for 25 years, until they ceased operations.
He was a tennis coach for several area high schools and was a director of the Chaffee Harte Senior Tennis Tournament in Williamstown. He was the director of the Town of Adams Summer Youth Program in conjunction with Youth Center, Inc. and was affectionately known as “Papa John”.
John began playing tennis in high school, where he was coached by his Dad. He earned many gold medals for his winnings on the east coast for senior tennis tournaments. He aways looked upon tennis as a life-long sport, interacting with many players during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, the former Judith C. DeMayo, whom he married on August 3, 1991 in Lebanon, Ohio; his children , Ann Green (Scott) and Sandy Loustaunau (Paul), both of California, Nancy Carriker (John) of Oregon, and Joseph DeMayo (Lisa) of Williamstown; his grandchildren Kyle and Jillian Loustaunau, Marie and Stephanie Green, Joseph and Jon Carriker, and Jack, Domenic and Aurora DeMayo; 6 great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday, January 5th at 4:00 PM in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 PM until the celebration at 4:00 PM, in the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date.
