William T. Quirk, 95

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  William Thomas Quirk, 95, formerly of North Adams, Ma., died Sunday, December 22, 2024, after a long active life. He was born in North Adams, April 30, 1929, the son of the late Patrick and Alice (Brennan) Quirk.

He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War.

Bill attended public schools and graduated Saint Joseph High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. After his military service, he worked at the Arnold Print Works, and then for the City of North Adams until his retirement in 1991. He was a communicant at the former St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Bill is predeceased by his wife Ivonnette Theresa (Pinsonneault) Quirk who died on April 16, 2009, and whom he was married to on November 24, 1966, in the former Notre Dame Church.

He lived a very full and active life, but in particular, he loved fishing and took annual trips every year to Vermont. Bill loved the music of his early years such as Frank Sinatra. He was a big sports fan. He would take an annual trip to Saratoga Race Track always betting on the number 4 horse.

He made it 95 years in spite of his healthy love for sweets, McDonald’s, and ice cream. There was always room for sweets. Bill loved singing and telling stories to his granddaughters.

For anyone who met him, you will know his favorite pastime was talking to people- anyone, anytime or anywhere.

Bill leaves behind his son, Daniel William Quirk of Waltham, Ma., a daughter, Kathleen Ann Fletcher of Adams, Ma. He also leaves three granddaughters, Alyssa and Alexis Quirk, and Monique Misiuk, two great grandchildren, several nephews, and nieces. He leaves behind his loving companion, Dolores Canfield, of Lenox, Ma.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

I knew none of Bills family, but had the honor of chatting with him every week at the recycling center where he worked part time for the fun of it. He was a kind and good hearted individual that knew everyone by name and always ready to give a helping hand. I would spend at least 15 minutes to a half hour every week working alongside of him just to chat. We became very good friends. He had many stories, never swore in public, and always had only kind things to say about anyone, even if knew he did not like them. He was an unappreciated asset by the people he worked for at the time. I think many of the local people made up for the slight he had to endure working in a small town by the positive interactions he had every week. I lost track of Bill after I left for NY to run my business for the next 20 years. I often thought of him and actually quite happy to see he made it so far. A good man, with a good soul that this world has so few. He will be greatly missed.

with my most heartfelt sorrow for your loss

Dan & family, I am sorry to hear of Bills passing. I cared for Bill for a short time before he moved out of town. He did love to talk. His talk was full of rich historic information. He also loved to laugh. Again I am so sorry to hear this.
