Mathew "Matt" James Ellis, 64

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mathew "Matt" James Ellis, 64 of North Adams, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Matt was born on March 15, 1960 in Rutland, VT to Benjamin and Eva (Fowler) Ellis.  Matt was a 1978 graduate of Glens Falls High School in Glens Falls, NY, and continued on to Paul Smiths College earning his associate's degree in Restaurant Management. 

He married the love of his life, Darlene Ellis (Belanger) on Nov. 1, 1997. Together they had 2 children, Nathan Ellis, of North Adams and Natalie Ellis, of Pittsfield. 

Matt was a dedicated employee of The Williams Inn for 32 years, where he met and married his wife. He loved his job and all of the employees and customers both new and old.

Matt was a dedicated sports fan and rooted for the Minnesota Vikings every fall, the Chicago Bulls in the winter, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the spring. 

Matt played golf almost every day during the summer at Stamford Valley Golf Course of which he was a member for many years and played in various leagues throughout his time there. 

Alongside his wife and 2 children, Matt leaves behind 2 brothers and a sister; Larry Ellis of Hudson Falls, NY, Andrew Ellis and his wife Linda Ellis of Glens Falls, NY and Sherry Ellis, of Port St. Lucie, FL. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great-nephews. 

The family would appreciate anyone who shares the love of Matt's teams wear their gear/colors.

Matt is predeceased by his parents Benny and Eva Ellis, his mother-in-law Rachel Belanger, and his sister-in-law Deborah Ellis.

A brief service will be held on October 21, 2024, at Stamford Valley Golf Course at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Williams Inn from 2-5

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the family for his end-of-life medical expenses.
