John R. Gaffey, 80

CLARKSBURG, Mass. —  John Richard Gaffey, 80 of North Adams, MA died on Monday August 26, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in North Adams, MA on August 26, 1944, a son of the late Patrick Henry and Florence Mary (Veilleux) Gaffey. John graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Bennington, VT. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard.

John was last employed by Excelsior Process and Engraving as its controller. He also worked as an accountant at Arnold Print Works, North Adams Regional Hospital, Old Stone Mill and Bob’s Camper. John was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a member of the North Adams Elks. was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the former North Adams Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing pitch and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Marie (Girardi) Gaffey; one daughter, Jill Billings of Wilmington, NC and one son, Ryan (Sheila) Gaffey of Shrewsbury, MA. He also leaves 5 grandchildren- Abigail Billings, Nolan Billings, Nora Gaffey, Caleigh Gaffey and Andrew Gaffey; two brothers, James Gaffey of CA and Robert Gaffey of North Adams as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers including Mary Pellerin, Florence Del Signore, Donald Gaffey, William Gaffey and Patrick Gaffey who died serving in the Korean War.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for John Gaffey will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams on Saturday September 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours at the church are Saturday morning from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247.
