A. Mark Gajda, 69

ADAMS, Mass. —

Mr. A. Mark Gajda, 69, of Adams, died Friday afternoon, May 24, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born in Adams on November 16, 1954, the son of the late Matthew and Margaret (Boulerice) Gajda. He attended Adams schools, graduating from Hoosac Valley High School with the Class of 1972.

Mark worked as an electrician for most of his life and had worked for Sprague Electric Co., Pfizer, Inc., Lee Audio and Security, and as a self-employed electrician. He last worked as a bus driver for Dufour Transportation until finally retiring.

Mark was proud to be one of the first drivers and licensed Emergency Medical Technicians for Adams Ambulance Service for many years. He was also certified as an EMT Instructor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He enjoyed taking his children and their neighborhood friends mushrooming and four-wheeling in the forests. He loved telling stories of his days working at McDonald’s while in high school and at Sprague’s. He especially enjoyed debating politics with his grandson Aiden.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Virginia “Ginger” Anthony, whom he married on April 9, 1976; his three children, Angela Gajda (Joe) of Pittsfield; Kelly Martinek of Dalton, and Brian Gajda (Missy) of Adams; four grandchildren, Aiden Deane, Ethan Deane, Connor G. Gajda and Alayna G. Gajda; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Christopher Martinek, and his father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Margaret (Haggerty) Anthony.

I know that you took wonderful care of him throughout the years. He lived a very good life because of you.
I am glad that I had a few conversations with him when you weren't home. I will never forget our childhood antics.

Sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. The mention of the McDonald’s stories really got me laughing. My favorite was about the guy that special ordered a hamburger without a pickle everyday during the busy lunch hour and would not accept just removing the pickle. Mark’s solution fixed the problem. Loved his bright green Maverick Grabber in the early 70s.
