Margaret "Peggy" Levesque, 76

ADAMS, Mass. —  Margaret ‘Peggy’ Rose (Martin) Levesque, 76 of Adams passed away unexpectedly following a joyful day out with good friends on March 30, 2024.

She was born in North Adams on September 21, 1947, to Russell Kenneth Martin Sr. and Marie Rose (White) Martin.

Peggy attended schools in North Adams and was in the graduating class of 1966 from Drury High School. Later in her life she obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree from Skidmore College, of which she was very proud. She was employed as an Advocate for people with disabilities at Ad-Lib in Pittsfield, Ma, until her retirement in 2023.

Peggy was an active communicant of the Adams Catholic Church, having served as a Eucharistic Minister as well as a former member of the Le Cercle Francais. She was an avid reader as well as birdwatcher who also enjoyed quilting, history, and baking. She will be remembered for her love of giving to others through small gestures. Her greatest joy was sharing funny and/or proud ‘grandma moments’ with anyone who would listen.

She is preceded in death by her former husband Lawrence P. Levesque whom she married August 5, 1967. Survivors include her children Anne-Marie LaFountain and her husband Danny of Florida; Laurence Levesque and his wife Gina of Ware, MA and Emily Shoestock and her husband Mark of Adams, MA. Her greatest joy was being a Grandmother to Joshua Shoestock and Claire Levesque. Peggy also served as a honorary Grandma to Samantha ‘Petunia’ Thorner as well as Orlena Tilton. Peggy leaves her best friend, Carol Thorner, who was more of a sister than just a friend.

Being the middle of five children she also leaves sisters Louise “Cookie” Hurley of Huntington, MA; Christine Doble of Peru, MA; brothers Russell Kenneth Martin Jr. of North Adams, MA and Michael John Martin of Lake Placid, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. Lastly, Peggy leaves many wonderful friends, whom she loved dearly.

I was saddened when I heard you had left. We only knew each other a short time, but it was magical, you were so kind and grateful sharing your garden with me. I found a poem to share with your friends and family. The Light Remains . There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone , the light remains. Sending healing prayers to the family.
