John J. Martin, 79
ADAMS, Mass. —
Mr. John J. Martin, 79, of Adams, died on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Berkshire Medical Center in North Adams.
He was born in North Adams on July 26, 1944, a son of the late Francis and Alma (LaBonte) Martin. He attended schools in North Adams.
Mr. Martin was a veteran having served with the United States Army until receiving his honorable discharge on June 4, 1964, at which time he joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard serving as Staff Sergeant for over 28 years and received the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding meritorious service.
Mr. Martin worked for many years in the power transformer division of the former General Electric Company then for the former Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin until his retirement. Following his retirement, John worked as a security guard for the former Berkshire Mall and was a driver for Cabulance.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams. He was a longtime member of the Adams Post 160 American Legion where he served in many positions and was an active participate in many military funerals. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren that were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Rosemary P. Dimitropolis, whom he married on August 3, 1968; his daughter Melissa Turoczy and her husband Robert Turoczy, Jr. of Adams; his son, Joseph Martin of Adams; two grandchildren, Robert Turoczy III and his wife Kiersten and Amber Turoczy; six brothers, Robert, Raymond, Thomas, Francis, James and Richard; five sisters, Shirley, Sandra, Brenda, Debra and Sue; he is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Eugene, and by five sisters, Karen, Bridget, Mary, Nancy and Judy.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd at 9:45 A.M. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by the Burial Office at All Saints Episcopal Church, 59 Summer St., North Adams, celebrated by Rev. Mary Frances Curns.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
