Amy A. Giroux, 62
ADAMS, Mass. —
Mrs. Amy Ann (Decker) Giroux, 62, of Adams, passed away on Monday morning, March 11, 2024, following a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA.
Amy was born in North Adams on June 30, 1961, daughter of the late Peter J. and Elinor M. (LeBeau) Decker. She attended Adams schools and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School with the Class of 1979. She then earned numerous professional certifications through several banking and financial colleges.
Amy’s roots ran deep in Northern Berkshire County, where she lived and worked her entire life. She was committed to making the Northern Berkshires a better place for individuals and families. Her philanthropic activities included volunteering on the board of the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition. She was a long time Red Feather donor, former VP of Allocations, and former President of the Northern Berkshire United Way. She also served on the Town of Adams Finance Committee for several years.
A dedicated advocate for youth, Amy regularly participated in the Berkshire Arts & Tech Charter School (BART) Junior and Senior presentations and the BART and McCann Sophomore mock job interviews. She regularly engaged with students at McCann and Hoosac Valley High Schools, where she taught basic financial skills, including checkbook balancing, online banking, and awareness of identity theft and fraud. She led the fundraising effort for the first Wacky World Playground at C. T. Plunkett Grammar School in Adams. While treasurer of Adams Little League, she raised funds to install lights at the Valley Street Athletic Field, allowing Adams to host the Massachusetts State tournaments.
In her professional life, Amy enjoyed a 40-plus-year career in banking, starting as a teller at the former South Adams Savings Bank, and rising through the ranks in various management roles until being named Senior Vice President of Retail Operations at Adams Community Bank. She was particularly proud of leading the Bank’s partnership to initiate “Movies under the Stars,” a popular event for families in the community.
Amy enjoyed boating, going for walks, and candlepin bowling. She was a life-long animal lover and adored her grand-dogs. But what really made her happy was spending time with her family and friends. In her last years, she especially loved being with her grandson Jack.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alan F. Giroux, whom she married on April 9, 1983; her daughter Hannah Alexander and her husband, Jamin, of Salem, MA; her son Evan Giroux and his wife Courtney of Savoy, MA; her grandson Jack Giroux of Savoy; brothers Thomas Decker and his wife Patricia of Readsboro, VT and Scott Decker and his wife Karen of Conway, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the multitude of physicians, nurses and other providers at Massachusetts General Hospital who cared for Amy, with great expertise and compassion, over the last four years of her life.
A funeral service to celebrate Amy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 PM in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams.
