Richard J. 'Dick' Weld, 89

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Richard James Weld, 89, of Williamstown died on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Williamstown Commons.

He was born on June 1, 1933, in North Adams, a son of the late Delia Gagnon and Chauncey Weld.

Richard attended Drury High School and graduated with the class of 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force and served his country during the Korean War era.

He was employed as a firefighter by the North Adams Fire Department, retiring in 1989 after 30 years of loyal service. He was a member of the North Adams Elks, American Legion, and State Firearms Association.

Survivors include his former wife, Claire M. Perreault of Naples, Fla., two nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Weld and John Weld, and by the late Carolyn Beverly.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Richard James Weld will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Sherman Burbank Chapel in Williamstown. Burial with full military honors and fire department honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Fund through the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. I worked with Dick for many years and retired myself in 1997. He is missed but many good memories are with me. He always wore the biggest smile and loved to laugh. RIP Dick.

Dick was a great friend and neighbor. Sorry to hear he has passed, I visited with him 3 years ago and we spent a good time in reminisce of a trip we made to Florida.

I always enjoyed running into Dick at breakfast somewhere in town and catching up!! He was a kind soul and never a bad word spoken about anyone.
