Leonard F. Sniezek, 94
ADAMS, Mass. —
Mr. Leonard Francis Sniezek, 94, of Adams, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2023 at Williamstown Commons. He was born in Adams, on August 1, 1928, a son of the late Helen Sniezek, and attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1946.
After graduation, Leonard served with the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea, until his Honorable Discharge in 1948. The USS Philippine Sea, in 1946, was the carrier that delivered Admiral Richard E. Byrd to Antarctica for Operation Highjump, Byrd’s fourth trip for exploration of the region.
Len worked in the Power Transformer division at General Electric in Pittsfield for over 30 years, until retiring in 1990. He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II, Adams, and was a past member of the Maple Grove Civic Club and the PNA. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, fly tying, camping, and taking walks with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, the former Pauline E. Schonfelder, whom he married on November 24, 1951; a daughter, Linda Haggerty and her husband, Bob, of Hudson, NH; two sons, Paul Sniezek and his wife, Marianne, of Adams, and Jason Sniezek and his wife, Julie, of Adams; his daughter-in-law Patricia Sniezek of Adams; nine grandchildren, Mary Brennan, Rebecca Stitchberry, Lisa Stilley, Katie Haggerty, Tyler Sniezek, Eric Sniezek, Jack Sniezek, Henry Sniezek and Veronica Sniezek; five great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his son, Bruce Sniezek on Dec. 18, 2017, and by a brother, Theodore Sniezek.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28th at 12 Noon in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. A visiting hour will be from 11:00 AM until the service. Burial will be held at a later date.
