Joan M. Blanchette, 93
ADAMS, Mass. — Joan M. Blanchette, 93, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at the home of her son in Pipe Creek, Texas, after a short illness.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mable Martell Lewitt. A native of Adams, she was married to Paul S. Blanchette for 57 years. He predeceased Joan in 2006.
Joan was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams. She then became employed for 37 years by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, from which she retired in 1985. Following her retirement, she volunteered at Plunkett Elementary School in Adams, where she loved working with the students and staff.
She was a communicant of Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church in Adams and where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.
Joan is survived by three sons, David (Kelly) Blanchette of Sunderland, Richard (Shira) Blanchette of Pipe Creek, and Gary (Mary Ellen) Blanchette of Palmer; and her grandchildren, Nathan, Scott and Jason Blanchette, Teri Lynn Rao, Nicholas Blanchette, Alison Dugre, and Matthew Blanchette. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, Bernard and Charles Lewitt and a sister, Barbara Cahoon.
Joan was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Lewitt and a brother, Leonard Lewitt.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Joan will take place Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame Church in Adams, and burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to Notre Dame Church Renovation Fund, 21 Maple St., Adams, MA 01220.
